From Santa fe take I25 South to highway 14. Turn south on highway14 and go south to highway 536. Highway 14 intersects highway 536 in the Sandia Park area. At the intersection of highway14 and 536 take highway 536 north toward the Sandia Peak ski area and then follow the additional directions to Doc Long.
From Albuquerque take I40 east to highway 14. Turn north on highway 14 and go to highway 536. Highway 14 intersects highway 536 in the Sandia Park area. At the intersection of highway 14 and 536 take highway 536 north toward the Sandia Peak ski area and then follow the additional directions to Doc Long.
After you make your turn onto highway 536 continue north. When you reach the national forest boundary sign (on your right) you are getting close to the Doc Long day use area. Slow down and watch for a sigh on your left that marks the entrance to the Doc Long area. If you reach the first switchback in the road you passed the doc long area.
When entering the Doc Long area please use the self serve pay station to pay the day use fee. Also place the other half of the day use permit on your windshield as the forest service does check them.
After registering for parking at the self serve pay station look for orienteering meet signs. Event check in is located at the registration table.
Albuquerque Central KOA campground in located on the east side of Albuquerque and provides facilities including tent camping, camping cabins and full hookup RV sites. Please visit the campground website for more information. This campground is located near I40 and Tramway.
Mountain View RV park. The phone is 1-888-284-2343 or 505-281-2343. Its not to far away and would be another option.
There are no campgrounds located within the forest boundaries in the Sandia mountains.
