The weather was great: sunny, gentle breeze, and cool (and far warmer than average for November). There were 32 starts by 54 orienteers. Some orienteers ran more than one course.
We apologize for the beginner courses opening late; that is not typical for New Mexico Orienteers. Forest Service unlocked their gate at the highway almost 2 hours late, and someone had removed all our survey tape markers from the on-trail beginner courses. Because orienteering is about navigating, not about searching, we put markers in plain view. We use survey tape first, then replace the survey tape with 3-D orange and white flags and punches. The survey tape being gone, hanging the flags required painstaking care and much more time than usual to be sure their location was accurate. We were fortunate to have so many volunteers present; we needed every one.
Course distance is measured on straight lines from control to control; climb is measured on the "best" route. Because Start and Finish were together, descent equals climb. DNF means did not finish: one or more controls on the course were not punched. MP means mis-punch: one or more controls not on the course were punched. OT means over time: the individual or team finished after the announced deadline for finishing. NC means no card: start and finish were recorded but the punch card was not turned in for scoring. Anyone who still has their punch card from this meet and would like to have it scored, please contact Andrea Carvey.
Red and Green courses took orienteers north into Sulfur Springs Canyon and south into the Armijo Trail area. Orange, Yellow, and White courses looped around the picnic area. Yellow courses were on trails, with some controls hung off the trail. White courses were strictly on trails.
